Only the elite soldiers of some of the larger northern nobles could wear chain mail..Many ordinary Northern knights could not even assemble a chain mail suit. In the north, fine plate mail was a luxury that only earls and their nobles could afford.

The eastern barons did better than the northern ones, but not as well as the southern ones. Most of their soldiers had to wear ordinary composite armour, plate armour being a valuable item only worn by knights and elite warriors.

The barons of the west had fared better than those of the East, but most of them had fallen to the sword of the Empire, and the rest had been captured by the Empire, or had followed the White Dragon to defend the fort of Tran.
