This makes so much sense. Perhaps the full limit of ten wishes is what he needs to finally break free and switching owners resets his progress? That begs the question of why it even distorts them in the first place but that might be a failsafe put in by whoever sealed it in the first place. Or perhaps that's just its nature as an Outer Deity, like how the Mother Tree goes on about reproduction all the time?

Actually just because it said you can have 10 wishes it doesn't mean the Genie can't break away sooner, it sounds like a bait to me. Like thinking you are safe with a few wishes but you actually have only 3. If the Genie would need 10 wish he would probably make it so its safe-ish to wish for more than 2 wishes. I think.
