it’s 1989 and sam says you’re a hero after you help that turtle off the road. you know you’re not but, just for a moment, you believe it.
it’s 1993 and sam comes home with a bruise on his face and an A in his algebra test. that’s my boy, you say and you clean the blood off his face. the next morning you break a ten-year-old’s wrist.

it’s 1994 and sam holds your hand for the first time. tangles his fingers with yours in the back of the impala. you close your eyes and squeeze. you hold heaven in your palm. 
it’s 1996 and sam kisses you for the first time. now you know what you were missing. 
it’s 1998 and you move inside him and it’s oblivion. it’s the tide crashing on the shore and it’s the colors speaking to you and you can taste the wind and the rain and you have fire inside you and where he kisses you and when he shouts your name you know it’s him, it’s him, it’s him.
