Review of “Romeo and Juliet” 《罗密欧与朱丽叶读后感》(后附中文翻譯)
The preface defines it as tragicomedy. Because the exchange of peace between Montagues and Capulets is the sacrifice of their children, the death of fallen-in-love Romeo and Juliet. As the story drew to a close, I thought it would be like Maximilian and valentine in dumas' “the count of Monte christo”, go through tribulations and never ever part, yet the massage for Romeo was blocked and both main characters died with love. Obviously, the storyline has strong Renaissance characteristics, chanting friendship and love.
I viewed some comments of other readers. Some of them claim that we should learn and appreciate their unending love. While from some others' perspective it's just a romantic but ridiculous story.I'm opposite to the first view because Romeo just gave up his last lover and turned to juliet for short time, also I think It's unfair to judge the story under our modern value, we should bring it back to the generation that the story was written. In the sixteenth century, the Britain was under the rule of queen Victoria, clashes between big federal families put everyone under great anxiety. Worried about the turbulent times that will not allow them to experience fleeting youth, follow the natural inner calling become their choices as a result.
