On the back of the woman, there was a baby well-wrapped in blankets sobbing without much strength left. Her sound of crying was becoming more inconstant as time was passing by, telling him about all the misfortune that they’d possibly been through. A drop of tear clear as the crystal was silently dripping down from her canthus.
After wiping off her tears, he discovered that there was also a piece of paper – a note wrapped in the blankets. “Bronya… what a beautiful name”, he whispered. Upon reading the note, a sense of being soaked in desperation could clearly be sensed. It almost felt like the woman had already known what would happen to her, and that she was simply telling what happens after she dies – to someone who is perhaps not going to show up at all.
He buried the woman and made a small nameless tomb for her as quickly as possible in the woods covered in white. After that, he grabbed the baby, held her to his chest firmly, then rushed back towards his vehicle at an insanely fast speed.
Even though he had already witnessed so many deaths on the battlefield, his heart was still melted by her drops of helpless tears.
“Even if it means that I’ll have to risk my life, I’ll help you live!”
