我用一丝惋惜翻去麦琪给予的礼物，展现在眼前的是《警察与赞美诗》，文中的苏比想去监狱熬过冬天，几次惹是生非。当听到赞美诗想改邪归正时，却被意外的逮捕。这出乎意料的结局，令人感到捧腹有心酸。
欧亨利借苏比的故事反映了当时社会的无情与残酷。主人公借助许多坏事扰乱社会，这也反映了资本主义社会下层人民的精神痛苦。
欧亨利为了表达对资本主义社会的不满，把手中的笔当作武器，大量运用穷富的对比手法，揭示自己作为一名作家对这个社会爱莫能助的忧伤。
欧亨利的作品中，幽默代替了酸楚，流露出自己对被命运捉弄的穷苦人民的悲惨情绪。
如今的社会早已不是那个颓废的年代，不再有那么多饱尝辛酸的人民。读着欧亨利的小说，我可以想象出那个年代的悲惨，一个个画面浮现在眼前……我不由得为欧亨利先生由衷敬佩。

Man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed but he can not be defeated. Gently closing the book "the old man and the sea",I can"t help thinking . In real life, encountering difficulty is unavoidable, the most important is to confront and have perseverance so that we can learn from failure.
