这是人们对于这栎树所作的悼辞。话虽然很短，但是用意很好。这树在盖满了积雪的海岸上躺着;从船上飘来的圣诗的歌声在它的躯体上盘旋着。这是圣诞节的愉快的颂歌，基督用血把人类的灵魂赎出来的颂歌，永恒的生命的颂歌。

IN the forest, high up on the steep shore, and not far from the open seacoast, stood a very old oak-tree. It is different with the tree; it is obliged to keep awake through three seasons of the year, and does not get any sleep till winter comes.
