在看海明威的这本小说时，故事情节让我热血沸腾，一个老渔夫敢于挑战一个比自身大几倍甚至几十倍的大马林鱼，而且在途中还不止被一条饥肠辘辘的鲨鱼攻击，过程极为惊险，虽然老人钓到的大马林鱼被咬地只剩尸骨，但那鱼骨却是对他多年来作为一个渔夫的荣耀，老人说过：“人可以被战胜，但不能被毁灭。”
这个看似悲剧的故事，但实际上有着勇敢、乐观的精神，鼓舞了人们的斗志。并且故事中老人出海之后体现更多宽广的胸怀，也是过去二十世纪二三十年代海明威作品的高度升华。
