《悲惨世界》讲的是主人公冉阿让一生的悲惨生活。他一生被法律压迫，被人歧视、侮辱。冉阿让原先有一颗纯洁、善良的心，可悲惨的生活让他变得冷酷，直到他受到卞福如主教的感化，他变得无私，他的冷酷无情如大太阳下的冰块一般被融化了，纯洁、善良的本性又显露了出来，
冉阿让让我看到了污秽中的高尚，黑暗中的光亮，堕落中的争取，悲惨中的挣扎。冉阿让崇高的精神照亮了我们的灵魂，我们不会像冉阿让那样的悲惨，但我们可以在失败中像他那样站起来，在不理想的现实中像他那样充满希望，给人以希望、力量。
