在马车上的第一个中午，谁都没有带吃的，只有羊脂球带了许多吃的，和其他人分享了。
第二次上马车时，和第一次在马车上的情况差不多，不过，这次是羊脂球没有带吃的，其他人都带了，但没人愿意与她分享自己的午餐，在路上，他们对羊脂球的事情十分不满，还讽刺她，嘲笑她，那些所谓的社会上的名流、淑女们的心灵是那么的丑恶。
我替羊脂球感到十分伤心，她被那伙人骗的好惨，我也十分憎恨那伙可恶的衣冠禽兽，他们不仅连基本的爱国之心都没有，就是在文明礼节上都形见笨拙。

In1870, with the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War, the real-based story Suet Ball happened. The heroine of the story is a humble harlot called Suet Ball. With a group of French residents of Rouen, recently occupied by the Prussian army, the 11 travelers are on their way fleeing to Le Havre in a stagecoach. In virtue of the appalling weather, the stagecoach moves rather slowly and has just covered a few miles by midday.
